Yessenia Ornelas Finishes 61st at State;

Congratulations Yessenia!

by Georjean Perez on October 30, 2017

The 2017 cross country season has come to a close as the 4A state championship girls and boys races were held at Wamego on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

The 4A girls’ race was the first race of the day.

At race time, the temperature was a cold 28 degrees with a slight wind.

Ulysses High School freshman runner, Yessenia Ornelas, qualified as an individual to run in the state meet.

Yessenia finished the 5K (3.1 mile) race in 21:51, earning a 61st place finish out of 100 runners. She ran the pre-state meet at Wamego in early September, finishing the race in 23:20, which means she ran the same course 1 minute and 29 seconds faster at the state meet.

We are very proud of Yessenia for her accomplishments this season and are super excited to have her for the next 3 years.

Thank-you to all who supported our kids throughout the season!
