UHS Presents Shop Class Technology on “Why Learn Mathematics?
Technology Using Mathematics, Science and Career Opportunities
by Susan Anthony on February 09, 2017
UHS Shop Classes spoke with all students at Kepley Middle School about Technology that involves using Mathematics, Science and Career opportunities.
The shop students along with Mr. Phillips and Mr. Deschneau demonstrated and spoke about 3D printer, CNC Router, CNC Laser and CAD programs that were all brought down or demonstrated at KMS.
Each of these Technologies involves what students learn in mathematics prior to using them.
Somes examples are learning about x, y, z axes, the coordinate plane and cartesian plane (Geometry - 6/7/8 Grade), scale drawings and models (Geometry - 7th Grade), finding perimeter, area, and volume (Geometry - 6/7/8Grade), proportions/ratios (Ratios/Proportions - 6/7/8 Grade), slope/Pythagorean Theorem (Equations/Geometry - 7/8 Grade), integers (positive and negative numbers) (Number Sense - 6/7/8 Grade).
Students and staff engaged in looking, listening, and discussing what was needed to operate and create projects with these Technologies. Students gained a different perspective on “Why learn Mathematics?”
