Cross Country Starts Strong in Opener at Goodland
Boys Team Places First and Girls Team Places Second

Launch the media gallery 1 playerUHS Boys' and Girls' Cross Country opened their seasons on September 5 at Goodland, competing against Goodland, Ogallala, Oakley, Scott City, ad Colby.
The Boy's Varsity Team placed first, with a score of 24. Individuals from UHS who finished in the top ten and medaled include Freshman Alex Barbosa who finished first with a time of 19:05, Senior Jose Lopez who finihsed third with a time of 19:24, Junior Payton Sanchez who finished sixth with a time of 19:43, and Sophomore Alec Widder who finished ninth with a time of 20:13. Senior Manny Moncayo placed eleventh with a time of 20:25, Sophomore Kolin Loewen placed twelfth with a time of 20:43, and Sophomore Jacob Irvin placed nineteenth with a time of 21:29.
The Boy's JV team individual results are Sophomore Angel Hernandez placed ninth with a time of 25:09, Junior Chris Franco placed twelfth with a time of 25:35, Freshman Alex Rodriguez placed thirteenth with a time of 27:05, Sophomore Luis Heredia placed fourteenth with a time of 27:50, Freshman Zack Oldham placed sixteenth with a time of 28:29, Freshman Daniel Rodriguez placed eighteenth with a time of 32:25, and Sophomore Rocky Franco finished twentieth with a time of 33:14.
The Girl's Varsity Team placed second behind Goodland, with a score of 43. Individuals who finished top ten and medaled include Senior Chisholm Branscum who finished first with a time of 17:09 and Sophomore Iexa Jaquez who finished tenth with a time of 19:06. Sophomore Andrea Galindo placed eighteenth with a time of 20:04, Freshman Ashley Devore placed twentieth with a time of 20:20, FreshmanSammi Siebert placed twenty-first with a time of 21:15, Senior Bailey Twilleger placed twenty-sixth with a time of 22:51, and Senior Annie Groomer placed thirtieth with a time of 25:44.
The Girl's JV results are, Sophomore Marissa DeLao placed fifth with a time of 24:12 and Freshman Brittany Price placed sixth with a time of 24:28.
The next Cross Country meet is 9 a.m. Saturday September 14 at Wamego.
