Welcome Message From Principal Sheila Koop
The staff at Ulysss Career Learning Academy is looking forward to the 2010-2011 school year. After graduating ten seniors last year, there is room for additional students and we are excited to meet all of them. UCLA offers a great curriculum for students who prefer a smaller setting, working at their own pace, and wanting to learn more about life after high school. We are excited to offer classes that will engage students in learning about themselves and others along with all the necessary acadmic classes which are geared towards meeting Kansas State standards and meeting Kansas/USD #214 high school graduation requirements. UCLA is dedicated to doing their part to help Ulysses become the best place to live in Kansas. We work with our Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development, and City Administration to find ways that we can help our community through service learning. State Farm Insurance has been a partner with us by providing funds that allow us to complete projects for the betterment of the community. The Kansas Learn and Serve Grant was recently awarded to us which will allow us to enhnace these projects during the 2010 - 2011 school year while teaching to State standards and expanding our learning through hands on activities in our core classes. We are very excited to be able to offer these opportunities to our students who will benefit both now and in the future from having the expereinces of serving others. If you are between the ages of 14 -18 and your graduating class has not yet graduated, we would be happy to talk to you about what UCLA can do for you. Thank you for visiting our webpage! The Ulysses Career Learning Academy is a charter school that provides the opportunity for students to complete their high school education as well as pursue careers within our community.
What is a "charter school"? A charter school is an independent public school that is designed to meet the student's needs that have not been met by a tradtional school system. A charter school must be nonsectarian, and it cannot charge tuition or discriminate by residency, race, religion, or economic status.
